👋🏾 Hi, welcome to The Offhours Weekly, a share of illustrations, drawings, thoughts and links. Thanks for being here, you’re amazing, tell a friend.
Pull the Thread
I’ve been watching a lot of random videos on the YouTube’s, as I rock my daughter to sleep. Videos with calm music, and low flashing lights.
Mostly art related, but also compilations about rare foods, manufacturing processes, nature, architecture, new technologies, and how mega businesses do what they do. Ask me about the cranberry mafia in Massachusetts and I can tell you all about how they grow and turn those berries into different products.
I have no idea what I will do with this information, but I find it so interesting and calming—so I keep watching.
Like an itch that has to be scratched, I keep following my curiosity. I’ve found that the more miscellaneous of stuff I find, the more it appeals to my brain and the better it translates to the work I do. I love learning about new things, and it’s become harder to figure out what to explore, so when something interesting pops up I go all in.
Somewhere along the line the information becomes useful and not just anecdotal. Many a project I’ve completed has been infused with misc knowledge. Even better when the topics so happen to align.
I plan to share a few case studies this year that fall within the realm, and highlight how random knowledge can lend to deliberate creation.
Anyway, go ahead, pull at a thread, follow the lead and see where you end up. Your future self will thank you. Maybe a year from now, I’ll be writing about the work that was inspired by this period?
FYI - I have a infant 🍼. Future posts will be scheduled when time allows.
📻 Music Vibes
“Everything is Beautiful” - Hiatus Kaiyote - One of my favorite groups. Incredible voice. Sounds like two and half minutes of spring time.
📸 Linky Links
“Elizabeth Goodspeed on the importance of taste – and how to acquire it” - ‘AI Can’t Give You Good Taste’ - was the main title that caught my eye, but maybe they’re playing it safe for the algorithm and trolls. Good read.
“Artist Emma Talbot: Telling the Stories of Our Times” - Emma Talbot in her London studio. Beautiful work on silk canvases.
Stay Wonderful.
