More Cider
The real fall drink of the gawds is apple cider. Good apple cider, like the stuff you get from a farm stand. Not the mass produced kind. Pumpkin themed/flavored things are cool and all, but real recognize real.
The first time I had an “American” apple was as a teenager in Kingston, Jamaica, it was a semi luxury import. I’d grown up with Jamaican otaheite apples as our go to, which have different taste profile, texture and a pear shape. I miss those apples, and I’m used to the variation here now, but there’s something about apple cider that brings me back to the first time experiencing aspects of America, and not from an external lens.
Keys Open Doors
Alice in Wonderland’, ‘Wizard of Oz’ - the heroes journey to world unlike their own. I find dreams and portals interesting to explore. How can I reflect a little of that wonder in my work? I come back to doors, key holes and keys as representations of this idea. I created a zine entitled ‘Keys Open Doors’ a while back riffing on the idea. The conceptual ideas are still with me and, still fun to explore and evolve.
