šš¾ Hi, welcome to The Offhours Weekly, a share of illustrations, drawings, thoughts and links. Thanks for being here, youāre amazing, tell a friend.
Concept, Concept, Concept
Continuing from last weekās issue. I was still in my black and white illustration bag with these illustrationsāthinking about the recession, travel and my own work ethic. Distilling what iām thinking into clear cut images is always challenge for meāIām sure most creatives can agree. This drawing project helped me to get better at this skillset.
Working on an editorial illustrations, I learned to find overlaps in common knowledge/recognition. There are only so many things we all are familiar with in general before things deviate into niches. Finding a hook that connects with an audience helps for faster understanding of the image and subject. In the image towards the end of this issue, I drew luggage tags to align with travel, and to bridge the association with the message about leaving.
The things that seem so simple are the most difficult, but itās one of the ātricksā that have become muscle memory with my process now.
FYI - Taking some time for paternity leave š. Wrote a few posts featuring work from my Daily Drawing project. Future posts will be scheduled when time allows.
Music Vibes š§
āFlukeā - Tanya Auclair - A bit of an oldie from my playlist, but I really enjoy the production. Auclair is an amazing sound artist and performer.
